Depot charging services

Our depot charging solutions are supported by various digital depot charging services that make daily operations easier. They cut complexity by automating tasks such as charging plans and handling deviations with minimal disruption. Operators get real-time insights into vehicle and charger status, along with detailed reports that combine live and historical data from every session.

Charging stations

We work with a selected group of hardware suppliers to offer a full range of premium high-performance chargers, supporting everything from overnight to fast charging.

All equipment is tested and approved to meet Volvo’s standards for quality and compatibility.

Advisory services

For larger or more complex projects, we offer advisory support to help define fleet depot charging needs.

We assess fleet usage, site conditions, traffic flows, and operational goals, then develop a complete procurement package from requirement specs to site planning.

BESS

Our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can make charging sites more efficient and cost-effective by storing electricity during low-price periods and releasing it at peak demand. It can connect with charging solutions and local grid markets, supporting peak shaving, load shifting, and backup power to ensure reliable depot operations and a seamless charging experience for fleets and customers.

Our digital depot charging services

Our charging services give you full control over your depot: optimizing energy use, monitoring fleet activity, handling errors, and even opening up stations for public use. Each feature is designed to simplify operations and maximize uptime to ensure a successful completion of the transport mission.

Services for Depot charging are available via Volvo Connect or Renault Trucks Customer Portal.

Charging station & fleet overview

View all your vehicles and chargers in one place. The charging dashboard gives you instant insight into the charging status of your fleet and if any vehicles or chargers need your attention. You get access to both real-time updates and historical session data, complete with graphical overviews.

Smart charging

Plan charging around your operations to avoid peak-hours. Set charger schedules, sync with vehicle pre-conditioning, and generate detailed reports from past sessions. An overview shows available chargers in the fleet and their connector status, and depot sites can be included in route planning. Secure, authorized charging is enabled through RFID cards or Autocharge.

Error handling

Get alerts whenever a charging error occurs – whether from a vehicle or a charger. The system offers detailed guidance to resolve issues, suggesting a range of solutions, from remote actions like restarting a charger to other corrective steps tailored to the situation. By combining data from both vehicles and depot chargers, the system streamlines troubleshooting and makes fault tracing more effective.

Private & semi-public shared charging

Fleets with existing depot chargers may share them publicly by joining the Volvo Open Charge network, where they appear on the map as official charging stations. Operators retain full control over availability, ensuring that daily operations are not disrupted. Alternatively, chargers can be shared privately with selected business partners or neighbors to optimize unused capacity. Access and billing are managed through solutions such as RFID cards, mobile applications, or equivalent systems.

FAQ about depot charging

If you cannot find an answer to your question, you are always welcome to contact us or your dealer.

We offer two types of EV truck chargers:

  • Overnight/off-shift chargers for long, slow charging periods.
  • Opportunity/mid-shift chargers for quick charges during short breaks. These options provide flexibility to suit your charging needs and schedule.

Support to buy a charger for your vehicle can be given by your local dealership.

The duration to charge an EV truck at a depot charging station can vary based on the power level of the charger. If you're using a charger with a low power level, it generally takes about 8-9 hours. However, with a high power level charger, you can expect it to take roughly 1.5-2 hours. Remember, these times are approximations, and actual charging times may vary slightly.

Charging Management is a depot charging solution available in Volvo Connect, designed to provide efficient and cost-effective charging solutions for your fleet. With this service, you gain a comprehensive overview of your fleet's charging status, including real-time vehicle charging updates, depot charger statuses, and charging history. Additionally, you can customize reports to suit your needs and quickly identify vehicles requiring attention, helping you streamline operations, reduce uncertainties, and optimize performance.

Fleet management solution refers to different types of software to support in managing your vehicles and charging – depot planning, monitoring to maximize uptime, energy management, etc. This includes features such as smart load balancing and remote diagnostics to reduce energy costs and improve reliability. Volvo Open Charge (public charging access and payments) and Optifleet CHARGE (fleet operations and charging insights) are examples of such solutions.
